There's a particular kind of afternoon in California when everything on the table starts looking like it was arranged by someone with very good taste and absolutely no intention of tidying up.

This is that afternoon. A leopard cushion, a Byredo Mojave Ghost, peonies going slightly overblown, an orange ceramic vase, sunglasses, a laptop with the logo showing — every object chosen, nothing posed. The whole thing held together by colour and the specific energy of a room that knows what it is.

You know the feeling of cutting into something ordinary and finding it is actually extraordinary.

The avocado has become so familiar it's almost invisible — until you stop and really look. Rings within rings. A dark pit anchored at the center like a sun. A system so complete it could be a map of something much larger than a piece of fruit.

Core is that recognition. Terracotta and olive fronds of color moving through concentric rings, black linework holding the geometry in place. A California kitchen staple seen the way it deserves to be seen — as something remarkable.

It lives well in rooms that already have warmth in them — terracotta walls, wood furniture, linen. It also works as the one grounding piece in a cooler, more minimal space.

I stood in front of the anchovy tank at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and couldn't move.

Hundreds of them, moving together — one direction, one current, one mind. And then a few, breaking away toward the surface. Escaping, it seemed. Choosing something different.

Look closer. They're all moving in a circle. What looks like freedom is just another turn of the same tide.

I stood there longer than I should have, thinking about that. How many of our own circles do we swim without ever seeing them? How often do we mistake movement for change?

I came home and drew this.

It lives well in home offices, living rooms, and any space that can hold art with a point of view. Bold linework, deep cobalt, the cold honest light of deep water.

Sea Whispers was born during a quiet visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I stood for a long time watching strands of seaweed sway in slow, hypnotic rhythms — not dramatic, not loud, just endlessly alive. In that stillness, it felt as if the sea was speaking softly, not in words, but in movement.

Dusk is the quietest version of that feeling. Earthy tones, fluid lines, the light already fading — not a moment of drama but of settling. The kind of piece that asks nothing of you except to slow down for a second.
