You are invited to take part in a pre-publication, invitation-only artistic experience ahead of the release of the Anthology of Ukrainian Operatic Arias for Soprano next year by the Ukrainian Classical Voice Project.
Created by Ukrainian artist and visual storyteller Ula Patoka, this limited coloring book offers a quiet way to engage with Ukrainian operatic repertoire — not through performance or analysis, but through slow visual reflection.
From Opera to Line
The illustrations in this book were originally created in full color to accompany specific arias, characters, and operatic scenes — helping singers sense atmosphere, emotional landscape, and narrative beyond musical notation.
In this edition, they are presented as line work: open, unfinished, and responsive.
Each image is inspired by a particular aria or character and translated into visual form to reflect the protagonist’s inner journey, historical context, and dramatic tension. If you’d like to learn more about the artistic process behind these works, you can read a detailed essay on their creation.

How to Work With the Book
This book is designed for slow, mindful coloring and is available as an instant digital download — no shipping or waiting required. Especially suited to quieter periods such as holidays or breaks between study and performance, each page can be approached at your own pace using colored pencils, markers, or digital brushes. You may choose to limit your palette to reflect a character’s emotional state, leave negative space where silence or breath might live in the music, or step away and return if a scene feels intense — opera unfolds over time.
Beneath each illustration, you’ll find the character’s name, composer, and opera, inviting you to listen while coloring if you wish, allowing sound and image to unfold together. More detailed contextual notes, translations, and musical commentary will appear in the Anthology of Ukrainian Operatic Arias for Soprano, to be published next year by the Ukrainian Classical Voice Project; further information will be shared at ucvp.org.
